Improving Student-Led IEP Practices and Processes is a five-week online course comprised of five modules, each focusing on a different aspect of the student-led individualized education program (IEP) process. This course is open to teachers and school leaders serving students with disabilities throughout the District. Participants who complete all course assignments will earn 10 OSSE professional learning units (PLUs) for completing this course.
- Module 1: Getting Started: Providesa broad overview of the student-led IEP process, its importance, and howto start the process in one’s school.
- Module 2: Building Self-Awareness: Provides information on developing self-awareness in a student to help him/her understand his/her disability and how to address the strengths and challenges of the student in the classroom.
- Module 3: Understanding Your IEP: Gives information regarding helping students understand whatit means to have an IEP and how this IEP assists them in the classroom.
- Module 4: Preparing for Participation: Provides information about howto adequately prepare students to be active participants in their IEP meetings.
- Module 5: Student-Led IEPs: Provides examples of student-led IEPs in action with IEP teams in several schools in DC and shows how students present at their IEP meetings as well as how students advocate for theirneeds.
