The Co-op works with various agencies and organizations in the District to creatively solve problems and improve the provision of special education services in DC charters. We also facilitate information and resource sharing among charter schools.

The Co-op has developed effective working relationships with personnel at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and the Public Charter School Board (PCSB).  Over the years, the Co-op has participated in several workgroups and committees as a representative of the charter community. This frequent and direct communication ensures that charter schools are represented in policy discussions and have access to professional development, funding, and other opportunities.

The Co-op also works with:

  • RSA/DDS – RSA funds our secondary transition work and our DC3C programming.  We partner with Vocational Rehabilitation counselors to reduce barriers to employment for students with disabilities.
  • DC Charter School Alliance – The Co-op provides training as part of the Alliance’s start up program for new charter schools.
  • DC State Advisory Panel for Special Education (DC SAP) – the Co-op has been a member of the DC SAP for over 10 years.
  • Department of Health Care Finance – the Co-op is a member of the school health services working group.
  • DC Council – The Co-op convened a roundtable for the chair of the DC Council’s Education Committee and frequently provides testimony at council hearings.
  • DC Office of the Student Advocate – The Co-op participates in “Know Your Rights” parent meetings throughout the city.
