The Co-operative is thrilled to announce a new initiative geared toward helping member LEAs work with their students who have the most challenging behaviors. Our Behavior and Discipline Initiative includes training and tools that will increase member knowledge and capacity to serve their students. Events include:
The Intersection of Discipline & Special Education – a training for school administrators
Presented with Advocates for Justice in Education
This session provided participants with a strong working knowledge of the federal discipline rules governing students with disabilities and compliant procedures working through disciplinary actions. In addition to reviewing local and federal law, the trainers provided participants with examples of school-wide discipline policies that are effective and work for both special education and general education populations.
Understanding FBAs and BIPs – workshop

In this workshop, participants learned how to understand, observe and analyze problem behavior. Through videos and case studies, attendees learned the skill of accurately describing and assessing behavior, and how to design positive interventions aimed at decreasing challenging behavior while at the same time increasing positive behaviors. Quality Bound Book Club (Co-sponsored by OSSE)
We’re delighted to inform you about the Co-op’s new book study group, Quality Bound (co-sponsored by OSSE). The goal of the group is to elevate discourse from compliance to quality through discussions of the latest literature impacting our field. In the pilot year (SY 2011-12), two books will be read that focus on behavior. Quality Bound is open only to Co-operative members, and each LEA will have one seat in the club.
