Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, non-classroom based (Full Time)

Bridges Public Charter School is an inclusive preschool and pre-kindergarten program for children ages three to five years old. Our mission is to provide a high quality early childhood educational program for all preschoolers, with and without special needs. We provide a developmentally appropriate, family and child-centered education that nurtures students and expands their skills and abilities, building a foundation for life-long learning. The Bridges Public Charter School’s curriculum supports the development of the whole child through a balance of investigation, play, and instruction.

Bridges is seeking a “Floating / non-classroom based” Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. All Teachers will be “highly qualified” in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Special Education Teachers must have training and teaching experience in early childhood special education, and have a Masters degree or Bachelors and certification in early childhood special education or special education. Minimum of 2 years experience working with Special Needs Students in either a mainstream classroom or resource room setting. Duties of this position will include:

Planning for and providing Push-in, Pull-out and Co-teaching services as appropriate for students.
Ability to develop and write IEPs (preferably already trained and experienced with DC EasyIEP online system) and other internal and external special education paperwork.
Supporting classroom teachers and Special Education Coordinator in developing and planning curriculum and modifications for students.
Strong knowledge base of current IDEA, NCLB and 504 Legislation and local (DCMR) Special Education policies and procedures.
Strong knowledge base in Early Childhood/Pre-K curriculum and methods of instruction.
Knowledge and understanding of Response to Intervention (RTI).
Implement specialized instruction to meet the student IEP goals and objectives and monitor student progress through data collection.
Assessing students
Flexible and Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, administrators, and parents.

Salary and Benefits:
An employee’s salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. Employees will be contracted yearly. Contracts will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest.

Benefits include: health care, disability insurance, and a retirement plan: 401-(k) or the continuation of the DCPS retirement plan.
