Substitute Teacher/Assistant Pool

The Co-operative is seeking certified special education teachers and special education assistants to fill short and long-term substitute positions in our member schools as they become available. Our members are public charter schools located in Washington, DC, who serve students with and without disabilities in grades pre-K through 12. Qualified applicants will become part of the Co-operative’s “substitute pool” and will be recommended to individual member schools on an as-needed basis. If you are a special education teacher or assistant interested in entering into the DC Special Education Co-operative’s substitute teacher pool, please send a cover letter, resume (including licensure/certification details), and three professional references to info@specialedcoop.org . Include “substitute pool” in the subject line.

*Acceptance into the substitute teacher pool does not guarantee employment.

Minimum Qualifications for substitute teachers include:

  • Valid teaching license, preferably issued in the District of Columbia
  • 1 year of experience teaching students with disabilities

Minimum Qualifications for substitute teaching assistants include:

  • Associate’s degree
  • 1 year of experience working with school-aged children in an educational setting
  • Experience working with children/adults with disabilities
